It is assumed that 2% of adolescents residing in developed countries have responsibilities to care for a family member. The role of adolescents in caregiving stands out and is associated with positive or negative outcomes. Therefore, it is significant to reflect on the young person's feelings while taking care of the elderly and their intergenerational relationships. The study aims to investigate the positive and negative impacts of caregiving provided by young people, aged 15 to 17, caring for the elderly, conducted by students from the Public High School and Technical School of Ceilândia - Federal District-DF. A cross-sectional, quantitative, and descriptive study was conducted using the PANOC-YC20 self-report measurement instrument "Positive and Negative Care Outcomes," originally in English, cross-culturally adapted to Brazilian Portuguese. The electronic questionnaire was answered on Google Forms. In the descriptive study, 352 students recognized as Young Caregivers (YC) were investigated, with 60.90% female, 37.70% male, 0.28% gender fluid, and 1.12% non-binary. Few negative feelings were reported, and there were many reports of positive feelings, indicating that YCs experience more positive emotions than negative ones when caring for the elderly. Further studies on the emotional outcomes of young caregivers for the elderly are recommended order to develop public policies addressing emotional and sentimental bonds involving intergenerational relationships. These policies could contribute to improving the quality of life and well-being for both the young caregiver and the person being cared for.
